Deep in the glass-walled corridors of 1 Hacker Way, Arjun Mehta was known as the "Architect of the Infinite." As one of the first ten engineers hired by Mark Zuckerberg, Arjun hadn’t just written code; he had built the very scaffolding of the social graph.

For nearly two decades, Arjun had been the quiet force behind the scenes. But by 2021, the company was facing an identity crisis. The name "Facebook" felt too small for a company building digital universes.



The Vision in the Redwoods

One humid Tuesday night, after a marathon coding session, Arjun fell into a deep sleep in his office. He dreamt of a symbol—a mathematical loop that looked like a softened infinity sign. In the dream, he saw his own surname, Mehta, glowing in neon blue.

In Sanskrit, Mehta translates to "Great" or "Chief," but in the dream, the letters began to shift and pixelate. The 'H' and 'A' blurred into the horizon of a digital landscape. He realized that his name held the phonetic root of the future: Meta. It wasn't just about him; it was about a legacy that transcended a single person, bridging his Indian heritage with the American frontier of technology.



The Boardroom Showdown

The following morning, Mark Zuckerberg sat in "The Aquarium"—the glass-walled conference room—surrounded by a stressed board of directors. They were looking at names like Horizon, Connect, and Omnis. None of them stuck.


Arjun walked in, uninvited, and drew a single symbol on the whiteboard: \infty.


"Mark," Arjun said, his voice steady. "We are building something that goes beyond (meta) the current reality. We are building the Metaverse."


The room went silent. Mark leaned forward. "It’s clean. It’s bold. But where did it come from?"

Arjun smiled. "It’s a play on the Greek prefix for 'beyond,' but it’s also a piece of the foundation. I’ve given twenty years to this company. My name is etched into the original servers. If we call it Meta, it’s a promise that the greatness we build next is a continuation of the people who started it."



The Legacy

The board vibrated with excitement. It was the perfect pivot—a name that sounded ancient yet futuristic, global yet personal.
